With Convertify, it's possible - and easy - to create multiple templates of any type of page.
For example, you can create 2 or 3 or 4 (or more) different versions of the product page. Each version can have a different design and its own unique components. Then you can assign certain products in your catalog to use version 1, other products to use version 2, and others to use version 3.
You can create multiple versions of all of the following types of pages:
Steps to Create a 2nd Version of a Page
Following are the steps for creating a new template for a page:
- Open Shopify Theme Editor
- Navigate to the page and click 'Create template' link
- Create the new template
- Customize the new template
Once you've created and customized the new template, you'll need to then specify in Shopify which pages will use the new template.
Step 1: Open Shopify Theme Editor
Within the Convertify app, either a) click on the 'Customize Theme' button on the Dashboard page OR b) click on the 'Customize Theme' button on the Convertify Theme Library page.
Alternatively, within your main Shopify admin panel, you can navigate to the 'Online Store > Themes' page and click the 'Customize' button.
Step 2. Navigate to the Page and Click 'Create Template' Link
In the top panel within Theme Editor, click on the navigation dropdown (which says 'Home page' by default).
You'll notice that there is a > icon to the right of the names of the 5 types of pages that can be duplicated (which is not a coincidence).
Simply click on the page you'd like to create another version of. For this example, let's assume you want to create a 2nd template of the product page. When you click 'Products', the dropdown menu will look like this:
The navigation dropdown lists all of the versions (i.e. templates) of the product page that currently exist, which is only 1 in this case (the 'Default product ' page). To create a new version of the product page, simply click the blue 'Create template' link.
Step 3. Create the New Template
Once you click on the 'Create template' link, you'll see a window that looks like this:
Enter a name for the new page template that you will easily be able to recognize later on. Then click on the 'Based on' dropdown menu. It will list all of your existing templates (i.e. versions) of the page. Select the version you want to duplicate to use as a starting point for designing the new template. Then click the 'Create template' button in the bottom-right corner.
Step 4. Customize the New Template
Since the newly created template hasn't been assigned to any pages yet, you won't be able to access it by clicking links within the main preview panel of Shopify Theme Editor. You will have to again access the page using the navigation menu in the top panel.
For our example, you would need to:
- Click the navigation menu in the top panel.
- Click 'Products'
- Click the name you gave to the newly created template
Once you navigate to the new page template, you can begin editing it just as you would edit any other template in Theme Editor. After you've made all the desired changes to the new template, make sure to click the 'Save' button in the top-right corner of the page.
How to Assign the New Template to Desired Pages
Now that you've created and customized a new template for a page, it's time to actually use it!
In your main Shopify admin panel, navigate to the page you want to use the newly created template. At the very bottom of the right column, you'll see a box entitled 'Online store', which looks something like this:
This box contains a field that allows you to select which template is used for that page. Simply click the 'Theme template' dropdown field and select the template you'd like the page to use. Then save the page.
