The 'Edit languages' page is primarily used to change the text of buttons, messages, labels, links and other system-generated blurbs of text. (It can also be used to change your store's default language, which is why it's named as it is.) If you don't like the wording Shopify is using for one of the above system-generated items, you can most likely change it on the 'Edit languages' page.
How to Access the 'Edit Languages' Page
Within the top panel of Shopify Theme Editor that spans the full width of the page, you'll see a "..." menu button to the right of the theme's name. If you click this button, a menu with several options will appear. Click the option entitled 'Edit languages' to access the page.
Alternate way to access this page: Within your main Shopify admin panel, navigate to 'Online Store > Themes'. Then click the 'Actions' button for your current them and select the 'Edit languages' option at the bottom of the menu.
How to Change the Wording of System-Generated Text
Here's a screenshot of the 'Edit languages' page:
As you can see, there's a filter (or search) field across the top of the page. Simply type the text of the button, message, label, link or other system-generated content you'd like to change. (Note: You can also search for the actual title of the text you want to change, but it's much easier to copy & paste the actual text you want to change.)
When the page refreshes, you will hopefully see the text you'd like to change. Simply update the text as desired, then click the 'Save' button in the top-right corner of the page.
Note: Some fields have "placeholder" content in them, such as {{ shop_name }}, {{number}}, {{total}}, {{ title }}, {{ count }}, etc. While editing the other content within a field is fine, we strongly recommend that you do not edit or delete this placeholder content.
Example
Suppose you want to change the text of the 'Filter and sort' link that appears on Collection pages when filtering is enabled. All you'd need to do is:
- Navigate to the 'Edit languages' page
- Type 'filter and sort' into the search field at the top of the page
- Find the 'Filter and sort' text within one of the fields shown on the page
- Change the 'Filter and sort' text to the text you'd prefer
- Click the 'Save' button in the top-right corner of the page
